CBD Bath Bombs: What Are the Advantages of Taking a CBD Bath?

Posted By nastyowl17

It’s been a long day. All you want to do is lie down in the tub and unwind. A little CBD (cannabidiol) might help, but you don’t know how much you’d absorb while in the water.

Maybe you just bought some lovely CBD bath salts at the store. You want to give them a shot, but you’re not sure how they’ll affect you.

CBD has been shown in scientific studies to help with anxiety, but only when taken internally. Is it the same when CBD is absorbed through the skin?

What Are the Benefits of CBD Bath Bombs and Salts?
What are the Benefits of CBD Baths?

CBD bath bombs and bath salts contain CBD, an active cannabinoid found in both hemp and cannabis. However, unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), it has no mind-altering properties. Instead, CBD may help to reduce inflammation, anxiety, and pain.

The hot water dissolves the bath bombs or bath salts, releasing the CBD. Other ingredients, such as essential oils and baking soda, are likely to be included in a CBD bath bomb so that it fizzes as it degrades, releasing a pleasant scent.

When you get into the bath, the hot water expands the pores in your skin, making it easier for the CBD and other essential oils to absorb. This is an alternative method of ingesting CBD and has the potential to provide all-over benefits to the skin and body.

Does CBD Permeate the Skin?
So far, no research has been conducted on the specific effects of CBD bath bombs and salts. However, there has been research into how CBD oil may penetrate and affect the skin.

Consider nicotine and birth control patches for a moment. These skin patches contain medication, which is absorbed through the skin and transferred to the bloodstream, where it can have the desired effect.

When administered as a transdermal patch, CBD can absorb into the skin in a similar manner, if not more effectively, due to the presence of natural cannabinoid receptors in the skin’s outer layer. “Recent studies have intriguingly suggested the existence of a functional ECS [endocannabinoid system] in the skin,” researchers wrote in a 2009 study.

The ECS was discovered in the 1990s, and we’ve since learned that endocannabinoids in the skin can affect everything from skin homeostasis and wound repair to skin permeability, inflammation, and regeneration.

In other words, the skin contains a large number of natural cannabinoid receptors that are uniquely suited to absorbing CBD when applied topically.

Is CBD in Bath Salts absorbed into the bloodstream?
Several studies have suggested that when CBD is applied to the skin, it is absorbed. The depth of absorption, on the other hand, is determined by a variety of factors, including the CBD product’s composition.

For example, so-called “topical” application, which includes creams, lotions, ointments, and other cosmetic products, is likely to be absorbed only by the topmost layers of the skin. These products typically target skin conditions and may aid in the improvement of dryness and other skin issues such as dermatitis.

Transdermal products, on the other hand, can deliver CBD that penetrates the upper layers of skin and enters the bloodstream more effectively. In studies, a transdermal gel or patch, for example, has been shown to get CBD into the bloodstream.

In a 2020 study, for example, researchers looked at the ability of various CBD products to penetrate human skin sufficiently to enter the bloodstream. They discovered that both a transdermal CBD gel solution and a transdermal CBD patch worked well, owing to the presence of other ingredients that aided penetration. Indeed, scientists are currently investigating the use of CBD transdermal patches as an alternative method of delivering CBD benefits.

A bath salt or bath bomb will not be as effective as a skin patch because it lacks the specific penetration ingredients. Hot water, on the other hand, opens pores and may help improve absorbability.

CBD Bath Salts and Bombs Could Be Beneficial to Your Skin
Are CBD Baths Beneficial to the Skin?

The bottom line is that you never know how much CBD will end up in your bloodstream when you soak in a CBD bath. It may be a small amount, but it may be sufficient to help you relax.

Meanwhile, you may come out of the bath with better skin. According to a recent study published in the scientific journal Molecules, hemp extracts (which contain CBD) improved antioxidant activity in the skin, hydrated the skin, and inhibited the ageing process.

Another study discovered that applying CBD topically has the potential to treat acne, eczema/dermatitis, and skin barrier function. A third study found that using a CBD-enriched ointment twice daily for three months significantly improved the symptoms of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.

So, toss that bomb in the water and relax in your relaxing, skin-soothing CBD bath. It won’t hurt you, and you might come out feeling a lot better than you did before.…
